FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Northern Indiana’s stretch of unseasonably mild fall weather will end this weekend as a strong cold front sweeps across the region, bringing showers Friday and a much colder pattern by Sunday. The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana says highs in the low to mid-60s through Saturday will give way to 40s and possible frost by the end of the weekend.
According to meteorologists, Thursday will stay mostly sunny with highs near 55 to 58 degrees. Winds will increase from the southwest ahead of the approaching system, gusting up to 25 mph at times Friday. Rain will develop Friday morning, turning widespread through the afternoon before tapering late Friday night. Behind the front, temperatures will tumble into the 30s by early Saturday, setting up a sharp fall chill.
Saturday will stay breezy and cooler with lingering clouds and isolated showers. Sunday looks even colder, with highs only in the lower 40s and lows dipping near freezing. A few lake-effect rain or snow showers are possible across northern counties near South Bend and LaPorte.
Residents should prepare for a quick shift from light jackets to heavy coats and keep an eye on weekend travel conditions, especially for early-morning frost and slick spots by Sunday night.
