INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A Frost Advisory remains in effect early Thursday morning for much of northern and central Indiana as well as northwest portions near Lake Michigan, where temperatures are expected to fall into the low to mid-30s between 3AM and 9AM EDT (2–8AM CDT). The National Weather Service said the coldest air of the fall season so far will lead to patchy frost, particularly in rural and sheltered locations.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Indianapolis and Chicago, affected counties include Carroll, Tippecanoe, Boone, Montgomery, Warren, Clinton, and Howard, along with Lake, Porter, Newton, and Jasper near the Illinois border. Areas closer to Lake Michigan will remain slightly warmer, limiting frost potential near the shoreline.
Residents should protect sensitive outdoor plants by covering or bringing them indoors. Agricultural officials note that even brief exposure to temperatures near freezing can damage late-season crops and flowers. Homeowners are also advised to disconnect hoses and prepare garden equipment for the cooler pattern ahead.
Motorists may encounter frosted windshields at daybreak Thursday. Sunshine and light winds will return later in the day, allowing temperatures to rebound into the upper 50s to near 60°F by afternoon. Another cool, crisp night is expected before a milder weekend.
