Evansville, Indiana – Drivers along Interstate 69 and the Lloyd Expressway could face sudden wind gusts up to 60 mph before 9 p.m. Wednesday as strong thunderstorms move into southwest Indiana.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 11 remains in effect until 9 p.m. CST Wednesday for Gibson, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh and Warrick counties. The watch signals conditions are favorable for damaging winds and large hail.

Storms developing late this afternoon may intensify quickly near the Ohio River, impacting Evansville, Boonville, Princeton and Rockport. Wind bursts could down tree limbs and power lines, while heavy rain may reduce visibility to under a mile on rural highways and low-lying roads. Frequent lightning could also disrupt outdoor activities and youth sports.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items, park vehicles in covered areas if possible and charge electronic devices ahead of potential outages. Avoid flooded roadways and be prepared to move indoors if a warning is issued.

The watch remains active through 9 p.m., and additional severe thunderstorm warnings could be issued with little notice this evening.
