Indiana – Cold air cuts across northern Indiana this morning as winter officially arrives with a firm grip. Wind chills dip into the teens, frost coats vehicles, and pavement stays stiff through early hours. It feels sharp and quiet now, but the pattern is already shifting.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, sunshine helps temperatures recover into the lower 30s later today. Northwest winds gust near 20 mph at times, keeping the chill noticeable. Tonight stays mostly clear, with lows near 21 degrees. Any leftover moisture on roads, sidewalks, or parking lots can refreeze quickly before dawn.

Conditions begin to change Monday. Clouds increase, and highs climb into the lower 40s by afternoon. Rain chances rise Monday night, with about a 40 percent chance of light rain mainly after midnight. Wet pavement could develop along I-69, I-469, and U.S. 30, especially during late-night travel.

By Tuesday, milder air pushes in. Highs reach the upper 40s, easing immediate winter stress but keeping surfaces damp at times. To be fair, snow is not expected locally, yet this warm-after-cold transition is a classic early winter setup. Flash freezing becomes a concern whenever rain is followed by colder air, especially on bridges and untreated roads.

Midweek brings another round of rain chances. Showers become more likely Wednesday night into early Thursday as Christmas travel ramps up. Roads may turn slick again, and visibility could drop during steadier rain. Plan extra time, check tires and wipers, and stay alert during evening drives.

Winter has arrived, even if temperatures fluctuate. How cold did it feel stepping outside this morning?
