Indiana – Wet roads and reduced visibility could impact commutes across the Hoosier State through Feb 23-27 as a warm front lifts north and spreads steady rain statewide.
According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, temperatures across the Ohio Valley are expected to trend near to slightly above seasonal levels during the Feb 23-27 period, while precipitation probabilities run above average. As warmer air pushes in from the south, rain will become the dominant precipitation type across Indiana.
Indianapolis, Lafayette and communities along I-65 may see periods of steady rainfall that create ponding on low-lying roads and slower travel during peak drive times. Fort Wayne and areas along I-69 can expect widespread rain as well, with brief heavier bursts reducing visibility. Evansville and southern Indiana will likely turn milder first as the warm front advances, keeping conditions all rain and limiting any wintry concerns.
INDOT crews may monitor drainage systems where clogged storm drains could lead to localized street flooding. Drivers should slow down on wet pavement, avoid standing water and use headlights during heavier rainfall.
Additional updates may follow as the warm, wet pattern continues through Feb 23-27.
