INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Indiana is expected to see a brief rise in temperatures around Valentine’s Day, though winter weather concerns will persist as rain and snow chances remain in the forecast from Feb. 14 through Feb. 20.
Highs on Valentine’s Day are forecast to reach the low to mid-30s across much of the state, including Indianapolis, with some southern areas briefly climbing above freezing during the afternoon. Overnight lows are expected to fall back into the 20s, increasing the potential for mixed precipitation as several weak weather systems move through the region.
Forecast models indicate an unsettled pattern through the extended period, favoring periodic light precipitation rather than a single major winter storm. Rain or a rain-snow mix is more likely during daylight hours, while snow becomes increasingly possible overnight as colder air returns. Northern Indiana may see a higher likelihood of snow, while central and southern areas could experience fluctuating precipitation types.
While significant snow accumulations are not currently expected, light snowfall and temperature swings could create slick travel conditions at times. Early morning and overnight periods pose the greatest risk for icy roads, particularly on bridges, overpasses and untreated secondary routes.
Temperatures are expected to remain near seasonal averages through the latter half of the period, with no prolonged warmup anticipated. Residents planning Valentine’s Day weekend travel or outdoor activities are encouraged to monitor forecast updates, as minor temperature changes could affect precipitation type and road conditions between Feb. 14 and Feb. 20.
