Indianapolis, IN – Residents across central, north central, west central, south central, and southwest Indiana are urged to remain weather-aware as a Tornado Watch remains active for 28 counties through 11 p.m. EDT Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, Tornado Watch 99 continues for counties including Marion, Hamilton, Johnson, Tippecanoe, Monroe, and Vigo. The alert was issued Wednesday evening as severe weather conditions capable of producing tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail moved across the region.
This watch impacts a wide swath of Indiana, covering cities such as Indianapolis, Bloomington, Lafayette, Terre Haute, and Kokomo. Storms are expected to intensify through the late evening hours, with potential rotation developing along storm fronts that could lead to tornado development.
The watch includes Boone, Clinton, Hendricks, Howard, Morgan, Tipton, Carroll, Brown, Lawrence, Daviess, Greene, Knox, Martin, Sullivan, Clay, Fountain, Montgomery, Owen, Parke, Putnam, Vermillion, Warren, and others. Residents in these areas should ensure they have multiple ways to receive weather warnings and take immediate shelter if a Tornado Warning is issued.
The National Weather Service recommends having a weather radio nearby and staying tuned to local alerts via television, radio, or emergency notification apps. Outdoor activities should be postponed, and safety plans should be reviewed.
This is a developing situation. Additional warnings or updates may be issued if storm conditions escalate or rotate into severe classifications.
