Indianapolis, Indiana – Residents across central and southern Indiana have just hours to prepare as Tornado Watch 10 now covers 18 counties through 9 p.m. Thursday, raising the risk for fast-developing severe storms before nightfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the watch has been extended and remains in effect for counties including Johnson, Morgan, Shelby, Clay, Owen and Vigo in central and west-central Indiana. Additional counties under the watch include Bartholomew, Decatur, Brown, Jackson, Lawrence, Monroe, Jennings, Daviess, Greene, Knox, Martin and Sullivan.

Cities impacted include Greenwood, Franklin, Martinsville, Shelbyville, Terre Haute, Bloomington, Columbus, Vincennes and Seymour. Any storms that form late this afternoon and evening could produce damaging wind gusts, large hail and isolated tornadoes with little advance warning.

Drivers along Interstate 65, Interstate 70 and U.S. 41 should monitor conditions closely, especially as visibility may drop quickly in heavy downpours. Residents are urged to review safety plans now, charge mobile devices and ensure multiple ways to receive warnings.

The watch remains active until 9 p.m., and additional warnings could be issued rapidly if storms intensify. Stay alert for updates through the evening hours.
