Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana is in for a soggy stretch today as widespread rainfall moves across the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Indianapolis. Forecasters say showers will persist through much of Tuesday, with isolated thunderstorms possible—mainly across southern Indiana.

According to the NWS, areas including Bloomington, Seymour, Terre Haute, and Vincennes will see the greatest storm potential. A stray strong storm containing small hail cannot be ruled out, though the overall severe threat remains low. Rain chances stay elevated throughout the day, with most locations holding between a 60% and 90% probability from morning through the early evening.

Total rainfall today is expected to fall between a half-inch and one inch, with the highest amounts likely in southeastern Indiana. Cities such as Indianapolis, Lafayette, Kokomo, and Muncie can expect steady, widespread showers that may slow travel during both the morning and evening commutes.

After the rain begins to taper off late tonight, patchy fog is expected to develop across central Indiana. Forecasters warn that some areas could experience locally dense fog, reducing visibility overnight and into early Wednesday morning. Drivers are encouraged to use caution during late-night and early-morning travel.

While temperatures will remain mild today, the persistent rainfall and cloud cover will keep conditions damp and gray. Improvement is expected later in the week as the region gradually dries out.

Residents across central and southern Indiana should keep umbrellas and headlights handy, with on-and-off showers continuing until late tonight.
