Indiana wind is already whipping across central neighborhoods, rattling signs and pushing trash bins down alleyways this morning. By late morning and into the afternoon, gusts near 45 mph will make driving tricky on I-65, I-70, and around the I-465 loop. High-profile vehicles will feel the strongest push.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. this evening. According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, west winds of 20 to 30 mph will continue, with peak gusts up to 45 mph across Marion, Hamilton, Hendricks, and surrounding counties.
Drivers will notice sudden crosswinds on north-south roads. Loose outdoor items can easily shift or break. A few isolated power outages are possible if tree limbs snap.
Temperatures sit near 48 degrees at Indianapolis International Airport late this morning but will slide toward the upper 30s by midday. The air feels brisk despite sunshine. Plan extra time for the afternoon commute, especially if traveling on elevated ramps or open stretches of highway.
Looking ahead, clouds increase Saturday with highs near 43. Sunday brings a 20 percent chance of light snow before 1 p.m., mainly north and northeast of Indianapolis. Little accumulation is expected, but with temperatures hovering in the low to mid-30s, even light flakes could create slick patches. This is the time of year when flash freezing develops after daytime melting.
Early next week stays cool, with highs in the 30s and low 40s through Monday. By midweek and into the 6–10 day outlook, a noticeable warming trend signals early hints of spring warmth.
