Indianapolis, Indiana – Drivers across central Indiana should prepare for a stretch of dry, summerlike heat beginning Sunday, June 1, but storms may bring a midweek twist.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, isolated thunderstorms could develop over the Wabash Valley this afternoon, but the bigger concern arrives Wednesday, when a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms builds after 2 p.m. Areas along I-70 may face slick road conditions, gusty winds up to 25 mph, and reduced visibility.

Sunday will start the month with sunshine and a high near 77°F. Temperatures will climb daily, peaking near 88°F by Tuesday. While Monday and Tuesday remain dry, calm winds and rising dew points will make conditions feel more like mid-summer. Those with outdoor plans should stay hydrated and avoid extended sun exposure during peak afternoon hours.

Smoke from Canadian wildfires may linger into Sunday morning, affecting sensitive groups. Air quality is expected to improve as winds shift.

Wednesday could see stronger storms by evening, especially after 8 p.m., when a 60% chance of showers and a thunderstorm is expected. Winds may gust to 25 mph. Rain chances continue into Thursday and Friday with highs staying in the low 80s.

Looking ahead through June 5, daily highs will hover between 82°F and 88°F. Thunderstorm chances will increase midweek before tapering slightly by Friday.

Stay tuned to NWS alerts and limit unnecessary travel during storms. Rain, lightning, and brief wind gusts are expected Wednesday through Thursday night.
