Northern Indiana – A sharp drop in temperatures, gusty winds, and a mix of rain and snow will impact northern Indiana today, with colder conditions lingering into Friday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Northern Indiana, wind gusts between 35 and 40 mph will persist throughout the day, creating hazardous travel conditions. A rain-and-snow mix early in the morning will transition to all snow by the afternoon, with accumulations near an inch expected in areas closer to Lake Michigan.

As the system moves out, skies will begin to clear this evening, but temperatures will continue to fall, with lows dropping between 24 and 31°F overnight. Friday will start off cold before a gradual warm-up, though increasing cloud cover will bring the possibility of light rain by the evening.

Residents should prepare for reduced visibility due to snowfall and strong winds. Those traveling should exercise caution, as slick road conditions are possible. The NWS advises dressing in layers and limiting exposure to the cold winds.
