Indianapolis, Indiana – Snow moving into Indiana this evening will bring several hours of hazardous travel, with accumulation expected to slow both the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes across much of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, Winter Weather Advisories begin as early as 5 p.m. in western counties and expand eastward by 7 p.m. Most areas from Lafayette and Kokomo through Indianapolis, Columbus, Bloomington, and Muncie will see 2 to 4 inches by daybreak Tuesday. The snow will start light but should intensify late tonight as colder air deepens.

Drivers on I-65, I-69, I-70, and U.S. 31 should anticipate slippery stretches, especially on bridges and ramps where temperatures fall fastest. Communities including Crawfordsville, Frankfort, Lebanon, Anderson, Terre Haute, Shelbyville, and Greensburg may see roads become snow-covered shortly after the evening onset.

Transportation officials urge motorists to slow down, allow extra braking distance, and avoid sudden maneuvers on untreated surfaces. Crews will be out through the night, but snowfall rates may outpace early plowing in parts of central and north-central Indiana.

Snow will taper around sunrise Tuesday, though lingering slick spots remain possible for several hours. Winter Weather Advisories stay in effect through 7 a.m. Tuesday.
