INDIANAPOLIS, IN – A fresh wave of December snow is blanketing much of central Indiana today as early winter weather tightens its grip. Light flakes swirl over slick roads, and a biting wind is making 28° feel closer to the teens. The National Weather Service says 1–2 inches of accumulation are expected, with the Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, drivers should prepare for slippery conditions on untreated surfaces. Visibility may drop briefly during heavier bursts of snow, and wind chills could dip below zero by midweek. Travelers returning from Thanksgiving trips are urged to use caution — especially on I-65, I-70, and I-74, where black ice may form overnight as temperatures fall into the low 20s.
Light snow is expected to taper this afternoon, giving way to mostly cloudy skies. However, meteorologists warn that another round of light snow or mixed precipitation is possible Wednesday evening, with the potential for a stronger storm system developing late in the week.
By Thursday, highs may struggle to reach 30°, with lows dropping into the teens under mostly clear skies. The weekend looks cold and quiet, but another snow chance looms Sunday night into Monday as Arctic air deepens across the Midwest.
