Indianapolis, Indiana – A strengthening line of storms is expected to push across central and southern Indiana tonight, bringing the risk of 60 mph wind gusts and hail through 1 a.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 74 is in effect until 1 a.m. EDT for a large portion of the state, including Marion, Hamilton, Hendricks, Johnson, and Madison counties, along with Evansville, Bloomington, Terre Haute, and Columbus.
The storms are expected to organize into a line and track eastward, impacting major corridors including I-65, I-70, and I-69. Wind gusts could exceed 60 mph, strong enough to down tree limbs and cause scattered power outages, especially in more densely populated areas like Indianapolis and surrounding suburbs.
Communities such as Bloomington, Lafayette, and Muncie may see rapid changes in conditions, including intense rainfall and reduced visibility. Southern counties including Vanderburgh and Warrick could see earlier impacts as storms move in from Illinois.
Residents should secure outdoor items, charge devices, and be prepared to move indoors quickly if warnings are issued. The threat will continue into the early morning hours, with additional alerts likely as storms intensify.
