Indianapolis, IN – Severe storms are expected to move through Indiana Thursday evening and continue into the early morning hours Friday, with the Indianapolis metro area at the center of the alert.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a “Slight Risk” (Level 2 of 5) for severe thunderstorms has been issued for much of central and eastern Indiana on May 15, 2025. Discrete storms may develop with the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes, especially between 6 p.m. Thursday and 2 a.m. Friday.

The area of greatest concern includes Indianapolis, Muncie, Terre Haute, and Richmond, with outlying regions such as Bloomington and Seymour also under watch. The storm coverage and southern extent remain uncertain, but residents across the state are urged to stay alert as updates become available.

Officials recommend having multiple methods to receive weather warnings and reviewing severe weather safety plans in advance. Power outages, flooded roads, and delays in overnight travel are possible depending on the storm’s path and strength.

This type of severe weather is not uncommon in Indiana during May, but authorities emphasize staying informed due to the broad impact zone and timing through the overnight hours.
