Fort Wayne, Ind. – Northern Indiana residents will see a break from severe storms this weekend, but rising heat and scattered thunderstorms could return Sunday afternoon, especially south of U.S. 30.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, the threat of severe weather has eased, with only a 20% chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms tonight. Saturday will bring drier and less humid air, with highs ranging from 82 to 87 degrees and mostly sunny skies.

Conditions shift by Sunday as temperatures climb into the upper 80s to low 90s. Heat indices are expected to reach as high as 97°F, and a 20–30% chance of afternoon and evening storms will develop, especially in southern areas. Greater shower and storm activity is likely to return late Sunday night into Monday.

Residents planning outdoor events should stay hydrated, limit sun exposure, and monitor alerts, particularly if traveling south of U.S. 30. Overnight lows remain warm, ranging from the mid-60s to low 70s.

Storm chances increase again Sunday night with up to a 50% likelihood of showers and thunderstorms across the region.
