South Bend, Ind. – Rain and scattered thunderstorms are moving into northern Indiana today, bringing a sharp temperature drop that will be noticeable by tonight and into the Monday morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, a cold front pushing through the region will trigger showers and isolated thunderstorms, especially south of US-24. High temperatures today range widely from the upper 40s near Lake Michigan to the upper 70s farther south, before cooler air settles in overnight with lows dipping into the mid-40s to near 60.

Cities including South Bend, Elkhart, Fort Wayne, and Lafayette can expect periods of rain through the day, with brief downpours and isolated lightning possible. Roads may become slick during heavier showers, particularly along I-69 and US-30.

By Monday, conditions turn dry but cooler, with highs mainly in the 40s and 50s. Overnight lows early this week could fall into the upper 20s to low 30s, raising concerns for frost in outlying areas.

Drivers should allow extra travel time during rain today and remain alert for changing conditions. Cooler, drier weather settles in for the start of the workweek, with additional updates possible if storm coverage increases.
