Indianapolis, IN – A mix of rain and snow is expected tonight across Indiana, creating slippery road conditions on I-70 and other highways. Freezing fog this morning already caused visibility issues, and colder weather is on the horizon.
According to the National Weather Service, rain will begin late Friday evening and may mix with snow before sunrise Saturday. Temperatures will fall below freezing by early Saturday morning, making untreated roads hazardous. Residents should plan ahead, use caution while driving, and allow extra time for travel.
Saturday’s forecast predicts scattered flurries by midday, with temperatures peaking at 37°F before falling to the mid-20s by evening. Winds could gust up to 23 mph, making it feel even colder. Little to no snow accumulation is expected, but slick spots are likely.
By Sunday, a significant cold front will move in, bringing subzero wind chills. The high will reach only 18°F, and overnight lows will drop to -3°F. On Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, sunny skies are forecast, but daytime temperatures will struggle to rise above 10°F.
Travelers should exercise caution this weekend, especially during early morning hours when freezing fog or snow could reduce visibility. Cold-weather safety measures, such as dressing in layers and keeping emergency supplies in vehicles, are strongly advised.
