Indiana – Flags snap hard along highways, trash bins slide across driveways, and wind roars through bare trees as strong gusts sweep the state this morning. Travel conditions are already turning tricky as Indiana heads into the final week of 2025 and prepares for New Year’s travel into 2026.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a Wind Advisory remains in effect through late afternoon Monday for much of central and northern Indiana. West winds are sustained between 25 and 35 mph, with gusts peaking near 50 mph. Officials warn that unsecured objects may blow around, tree limbs could fall, and isolated power outages are possible.

Indianapolis, Lafayette, Muncie, Kokomo, Terre Haute, and Bloomington are all included in the advisory area. High-profile vehicles may struggle on open stretches of I-65, I-69, and I-70 as crosswinds intensify through the afternoon. Wet pavement combined with falling temperatures may allow patchy flash freezing later today and tonight.

Cold air continues pressing south behind the wind. Morning wind chills hovered near zero in some spots, and temperatures remain below seasonal norms through midweek. Light flurries are possible at times, especially north of Indianapolis, with little accumulation but enough to reduce visibility during commutes.

Looking ahead, attention shifts to midweek and New Year’s Eve. A weak system may bring scattered snow showers Wednesday into Wednesday night. Even light snow could create slick roads as daytime melting refreezes after sunset. New Year’s Day looks cold but calmer, offering quieter travel conditions to start 2026.

Plan extra travel time today, secure loose items, and stay alert for changing road conditions. Traveling this week? What are you seeing where you are?
