Indianapolis, IN – Major flooding continues to impact southern Indiana, with some of the region’s rivers reaching all-time record crests. According to the U.S. National Weather Service, multiple river points in south-central Indiana have recorded the highest water levels in over a century. Shelbyville’s East Fork White River crested at 19.98 feet on March 28, 1913, making it the second highest on record for the area.
As of 1 p.m. on April 7, 2025, major flooding persists throughout the region, with flooding expected to worsen in some areas. The White River at Spencer reached a crest of 24.41 feet, marking the highest recorded since 2008. Other affected locations include Seymour and Columbus, with ongoing risks to areas near the Wabash River Basin and Lower Spencer.
Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to take immediate precautions. Authorities advise avoiding flooded roads and adhering to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” warnings. Flood conditions may continue to develop into the week, with the risk of further disruptions to transportation and daily life.
