Michigan City, IN – The National Weather Service (NWS) Northern Indiana has issued a high swim risk warning for tomorrow, Wednesday, July 10th, for beaches along southeast Lake Michigan. Visitors are advised to stay off the pier and out of the water due to expected life-threatening conditions.

According to the NWS, the warning is in effect due to anticipated dangerous currents and waves reaching 4 to 8 feet. The high swim risk applies specifically to beaches in Berrien County, Michigan, and La Porte County, Indiana. Winds are expected to blow from the north at 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, exacerbating the hazardous conditions.

Lifeguards will be on high alert, and beachgoers are urged to heed their warnings. The NWS emphasizes that the combination of strong winds and high waves poses a significant risk, with dangerous currents likely to persist throughout the day.

Meteorologists predict that wave heights will start at 1 to 2 feet tonight, increasing significantly to 4 to 8 feet by Wednesday. These conditions can create unpredictable and powerful currents that can quickly overwhelm even strong swimmers.
