Fort Wayne, IN – Northern Indiana residents should prepare for changing weather conditions this evening as isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop and move into the region after 6 p.m. EDT.

According to the US National Weather Service Northern Indiana, storms currently forming in Illinois are projected to move east, affecting communities along and west of Interstate 69. Meteorologists warn that frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall will be the main concerns, but small hail and gusty winds could also accompany stronger storm cells.

The National Weather Service reported that storms were moving northeast at approximately 20 mph as of 3:45 p.m. EDT. Impacted areas could experience brief travel slowdowns, particularly in western Indiana counties, as the system continues eastward through the evening hours.

While the storms are expected to remain scattered, officials advise residents to remain alert for rapidly changing conditions. Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution during heavy downpours and avoid flooded roadways. Outdoor activities may also be disrupted by lightning risk.

The National Weather Service emphasized that updates will be provided throughout the evening as conditions evolve. Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and prepare for brief but potentially disruptive weather.
