Indianapolis, Indiana – Hoosiers across much of Indiana could face renewed winter travel concerns as a late-January weather pattern increases the likelihood of accumulating snow statewide.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, Indiana is included in a slight risk for heavy snow from Saturday through the following Friday, signaling a higher chance for one or more organized winter systems moving through the Midwest. The risk spans northern, central, and southern Indiana as colder air settles into the region.

In central Indiana, including Indianapolis and surrounding Marion County, temperatures trending below normal favor snow as the dominant precipitation type. That could lead to slick conditions along Interstates 65, 69, 70, and 74, especially during overnight and early morning travel periods.

Across north-central Indiana, including Lafayette and Tippecanoe County, snow may arrive in multiple rounds rather than a single storm, increasing the potential for cumulative impacts on local roads and highways. Farther south, including Bloomington and Monroe County, colder air pressing into the Ohio Valley could allow snow to accumulate even outside higher terrain.

The Indiana Department of Transportation urges residents to monitor road conditions closely, limit non-essential travel during snow, and keep vehicles equipped with winter emergency supplies. With below-normal temperatures expected to persist, snow that falls may linger between systems.

More specific timing details and possible winter weather advisories are expected as the late-January window approaches, with clearer impacts emerging by early next week.
