Indianapolis, Indiana – Heavy rain and thunderstorms are soaking central Indiana today, creating a risk of localized flooding across the region, especially in low-lying and poorly drained areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the main concern is slow-moving showers that could drop several inches of rain in a short period. Thunderstorms will continue throughout Saturday with temperatures ranging from 74 to 82 degrees. While the bulk of the rain is expected to move out by tonight, additional showers remain possible into Sunday.

Drivers across Marion, Hamilton, and Johnson counties should watch for ponding on roads and be cautious near creeks and underpasses. Residents in flood-prone neighborhoods are urged to clear storm drains and avoid parking in low areas. If you must travel, use headlights and reduce speed on wet roadways.

Sunday will bring some relief, with partly cloudy skies and highs in the mid-80s, though a few showers may linger into Sunday night.

More updates may be issued if flooding threats increase or if new storm cells develop overnight.
