Indianapolis, IN – A widespread freeze warning and ongoing river flooding are impacting central Indiana, posing risks to early spring vegetation and rural infrastructure through Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a Freeze Warning is in effect from 12 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday, April 12. Overnight lows are forecast to drop to 27°F in some areas, with most counties including Marion, Monroe, Shelby, and Vigo expecting temperatures around 30–32°F. These freezing conditions threaten sensitive plants and recently sprouted crops.

Residents are urged to cover tender plants or bring them indoors to prevent damage. Gardeners and farmers should take immediate precautions to avoid losses due to this brief but significant cold snap.

Meanwhile, major river flooding persists across southern and central Indiana, particularly along the lower White and East Fork White Rivers. Flood warnings continue for Knox, Daviess, and Martin counties. The East Fork White River is cresting near Shoals, with water levels remaining elevated downstream of Edwardsport through Saturday night.

Motorists are reminded to avoid flooded roads and use alternate routes. “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” remains a key safety message from authorities.
