Indianapolis, IN – Cold fall air is moving into Indiana, bringing the state’s first real shot at frost and freezing temperatures later this week, according to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.

Forecasters say Wednesday night will bring patchy frost, mainly in western and northern parts of the state. The coldest morning is expected to be Friday, October 24, when areas like Muncie and Terre Haute have a 75–98% chance of dropping below freezing. Lows could fall into the upper 20s to low 30s, marking the end of the growing season for many locations.

“Widespread frost and a potential freeze are likely Thursday night,” meteorologists warned, noting additional frost chances will continue into Friday night before a gradual weekend warm-up.

Residents are urged to cover or bring in sensitive plants and disconnect outdoor hoses to prevent freezing damage.
