INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A quick-hitting line of fall thunderstorms will cross central Indiana today and Sunday, bringing bursts of heavy rain and gusty winds up to 40 mph before calmer weather arrives Monday. The storms could slow traffic along I-70, I-65, and U.S. 31, especially during midday travel or outdoor weekend events. Motorists and festival-goers should secure lightweight decorations and stay weather-aware during the strongest gusts.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, scattered storms will form through this afternoon and continue into early Sunday. A few stronger cells may produce lightning and locally heavy downpours, with isolated minor flooding in low-lying or poor-drainage areas. Winds will increase through Sunday, gusting near 40 mph at times before shifting northwest behind the front. Cooler, drier air moves in quickly Sunday night.

By Monday, the region rebounds under sunny skies and highs in the mid-60s — ideal for outdoor chores, pumpkin patch visits, and fall yard cleanup. Morning lows will dip into the 40s, giving the first true taste of late-October chill.

Looking ahead, much of the upcoming week will stay mild and dry, with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s and another chance of light showers by Thursday. Conditions look favorable for Halloween decorating, leaf raking, and fall park visits across central Indiana.
