FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Drivers in northern Indiana woke to thick fog early Monday, with visibility dropping below a quarter mile along I-69, US-30, and rural county roads. The dense fog is expected to lift by midmorning, leaving behind a stretch of calm, sunny fall weather through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. EDT for Allen, DeKalb, Noble, and surrounding counties. Visibility will improve quickly after sunrise, but motorists should slow down, use headlights, and allow extra time for the commute. The agency warns of sudden visibility drops, especially near open fields and low-lying areas.

Once the fog clears, sunshine and above-average warmth will dominate through Wednesday, with highs climbing into the upper 70s Tuesday before cooling later in the week. Light winds and dry air will make for ideal fall activities — from leaf-viewing drives to final pumpkin patch outings — across northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio.

The mild stretch is expected to fade by Thursday night as a cold front slides through the region, bringing cooler air and a few clouds into the weekend. While no frost is expected yet, forecasters note the potential for chillier nights by early next week.

Residents should continue monitoring NWS updates for late-week temperature changes. For now, clear skies and warm sunshine make this one of October’s best windows for outdoor projects before the next cold snap arrives.
