Fort Wayne, Indiana – Scattered storms could bring damaging wind gusts and heavy rain to parts of northern Indiana this afternoon and evening, particularly along and east of the I-69 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms is in effect from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. EDT Friday, primarily impacting areas east of South Bend, Plymouth, and Monticello. While storm coverage is uncertain, isolated cells or a broken line of storms could develop as a cold front pushes through.

Cities like Fort Wayne, Warsaw, and Logansport may see quick-hitting storms capable of downing tree limbs and creating hazardous driving conditions. The main hazards are 40–60 mph wind gusts and brief heavy downpours. Residents should avoid outdoor activities this evening and secure loose objects.

Compounding the threat is oppressive heat. A heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m., with heat index values again nearing 100° before cooler air arrives Saturday. Hydrate frequently and avoid prolonged exposure outdoors.

The risk of storms will diminish by late evening. More updates are expected if coverage increases or new warnings are issued.
