Indianapolis, IN – Temperatures are set to rise across Indiana starting Sunday, with highs climbing into the 80s by early next week as hazy skies persist due to wildfire smoke.

According to the US National Weather Service in Indianapolis, dry weather is expected to hold through Tuesday, with only a slight chance of isolated thunderstorms in southwestern Indiana this evening. The broader region will see increasingly hazy skies through at least early next week, driven by smoke aloft from distant wildfires.

Forecasts show Sunday reaching 75 degrees, followed by a spike to 83 degrees Monday. Temperatures are expected to remain in the upper 80s on Tuesday and Wednesday, peaking at 87 degrees both days. Meteorologists warn that air quality could be affected, especially for sensitive groups, due to the elevated smoke levels.

The Weather Service advises residents to stay updated on local air quality alerts and limit prolonged outdoor activity if haze becomes dense. No significant rainfall is expected during this period, and dry conditions could persist into midweek.

Officials recommend continued caution when burning outdoors and urge the public to report any signs of brush fires, as dry air and rising temperatures could increase fire risk despite current calm conditions.
