Fort Wayne, IN – Residents across northern Indiana should brace for an Arctic blast as temperatures drop sharply starting tonight. Lake effect snow showers are expected to continue through Tuesday, with wind chills nearing dangerous lows of -10 degrees.

According to the US National Weather Service, conditions will worsen overnight as temperatures fall into the single digits. Tuesday will be the coldest day of the week, with highs between 15 and 22 degrees and lows ranging from 2 to 18 degrees. Wind speeds of up to 25 mph will make outdoor exposure hazardous. Residents are urged to dress in layers, limit time outside, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

Lake effect snow is forecast to create slick and icy roadways, particularly near Lake Michigan and along key highways such as Interstate 69. Drivers should prepare for reduced visibility and allow extra travel time during peak snowfall hours.

By Wednesday, sunny skies will return, but temperatures will remain frigid, with highs near 18 degrees. A brief warming trend is expected Thursday, with highs climbing to 30 degrees before another system brings a mix of rain and snow by Friday.

This week’s freezing conditions are a reminder to take precautions against frostbite and hypothermia. Keep pets indoors, and ensure exposed pipes are insulated. For the latest updates and road conditions, visit the National Weather Service website or tune in to local alerts.
