Indianapolis, Indiana – Storms developing after 7 p.m. could bring damaging wind gusts over 60 mph and large hail, creating hazardous travel conditions across central Indiana into early Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a Level 2 of 5 severe weather risk is in place, with the greatest threat focused across northern portions of central Indiana. Storms are expected to intensify between 7 p.m. Tuesday and 2 a.m. Wednesday, producing strong winds, large hail, and locally heavy rainfall.

Cities including Indianapolis, Lafayette, Kokomo, Muncie, and Anderson are all in the risk zone, with the most significant impacts likely during the late evening hours. Major roadways such as I-65, I-69, and I-70 could see rapidly changing conditions, including reduced visibility and water-covered roads.

Localized flooding is also possible where heavy rain develops, especially in low-lying or poor drainage areas. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel overnight, and ensure multiple ways to receive warnings while asleep.

The severe threat will taper toward early Wednesday morning, but additional warnings may be issued as storms track across the region overnight.
