Marion, Indiana – Drivers and residents across northern Indiana face rapidly intensifying thunderstorms capable of knocking down tree limbs and cutting power before midnight, as severe weather pushes across the region Thursday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 76 remains in effect until midnight EDT for 12 counties, including Grant, Cass, Miami, and Wabash. Storms moving through the area may produce wind gusts up to 60 mph along with hail that could damage vehicles and roofs.

Cities such as Marion, Logansport, and Peru are likely to see bursts of heavy rain that could drop visibility below a half mile on U.S. 24 and State Road 15, creating hazardous driving conditions during the late evening commute. In Huntington, Bluffton, and Decatur, strong wind gusts may snap tree limbs and lead to scattered power outages, especially in rural areas.

Farther north and west, Monticello, Winamac, and Rochester could experience brief but intense storm cells capable of quick rainfall and isolated hail accumulation.

Residents should secure outdoor objects, charge electronic devices, and avoid unnecessary travel as storms pass through. Conditions may change quickly as individual storm cells strengthen.

The watch remains active until midnight, with additional warnings possible if storms intensify or track over the same areas.
