Fort Wayne, IN – The morning begins under a pale, cloudy sky and temperatures near 14°F, a frigid reminder that December has settled in for good. Roads across northern Indiana are crusted with snow from the weekend system, and another round of wintry weather is already on the horizon.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, areas north of Highway 30 picked up 1–3 inches of snow Sunday. Temperatures remain locked near freezing today with light winds, but a stronger system arrives Tuesday, bringing a mix of snow and rain to the region.

Light snow may begin by early afternoon Tuesday, changing to rain as highs briefly climb into the upper 30s. The wet pattern won’t last long — colder air returns quickly by Wednesday, switching precipitation back to snow and freezing roads once again. Gusts up to 35 mph will make travel difficult at times, especially along open stretches of I-69 and U.S. 30.

By late week, highs will tumble into the 20s with wind chills near or below zero, extending through the weekend. Scattered snow showers are likely to persist Thursday and Friday as lake-effect bands drift inland from Lake Michigan.
