South Bend, Indiana – A chilly and breezy start is gripping northern Indiana today, with temperatures stuck in the 30s and 40s before a rapid warmup begins this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, highs Friday will range from 37 to 45 degrees with brisk winds and decreasing clouds through the day. Morning lows dipped into the low to mid-20s, creating a cold start for communities including South Bend, Elkhart, and Fort Wayne.
Conditions improve steadily this weekend. Saturday brings sunshine with highs climbing into the low to upper 40s, followed by a bigger jump Sunday as temperatures reach the upper 50s to low 60s. Breezy conditions may linger, especially along US-31 and I-80/90 corridors.
The warming trend accelerates into early next week. Highs push into the 60s and low 70s Monday, with a 20 percent chance of afternoon rain developing. By Tuesday, temperatures climb into the 70s to near 80 degrees, with a 40 to 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms across the region.
Residents should prepare for wide temperature swings and stay alert for changing conditions early next week.
The cold air exits quickly, replaced by spring warmth and increasing storm chances heading into Tuesday.
