Indianapolis, IN – Bitterly cold temperatures are gripping central Indiana, with wind chills plunging as low as -20 degrees through Wednesday morning. Residents are urged to take precautions as frostbite could occur on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the coldest temperatures are expected late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. Current forecasts show overnight lows reaching 0 degrees, with strong winds making conditions feel much colder. A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect for central Indiana, including major cities such as Indianapolis, Lafayette, and Bloomington, until 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Travelers along major roadways like I-65 and I-70 should prepare for icy conditions and limited visibility due to scattered snow showers. The National Weather Service advises wearing multiple layers, including hats and gloves, and limiting outdoor exposure. Pets should also be kept indoors.

Temperatures are expected to rise slightly by Wednesday afternoon, reaching highs around 22 degrees. However, wind chill values will still make it feel close to zero. Looking ahead, Thursday brings a slight chance of snow and highs near 28 degrees. Conditions will remain frigid into the weekend, with lows dipping into the teens and daytime highs staying below freezing.
