Indianapolis, IN – Indiana environmental officials are reminding Solid Waste Management Districts (SWMDs) across the state that an informational webinar on waste-tire cleanup funding will take place tomorrow at 1 p.m. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) says the online session will walk applicants through program rules, eligible cleanup activities, and best practices for securing up to $10,000 in grant funding.
According to IDEM, the Waste Tire Cleanup Grant program helps districts remove abandoned or improperly stored tires, which can pose fire hazards, attract pests, and contribute to pollution if left unaddressed. Tire piles also increase mosquito breeding and can create long-term environmental risks for nearby communities.
The webinar will cover application scoring, documentation requirements, approved cleanup methods, and how SWMDs can demonstrate local need. Officials said a recording will be made available for anyone unable to attend the live session.
IDEM will accept applications from December 15 through January 16, giving districts about a month to prepare proposals. Agencies interested in participating are encouraged to register early and review program guidelines in advance.
State environmental leaders say the grant program has supported several successful cleanup efforts in recent years, reducing tire stockpiles and improving safety in both rural and urban areas. The agency hopes this year’s funding cycle will help districts address illegal dumping, legacy sites, or high-priority cleanup zones.
Registration information and additional details are available through IDEM’s online portal.
