Porter County, IN – U.S. 12 in Porter County is set to close for utility work, impacting local traffic for approximately five days. The closure will affect the stretch between Hillcrest Road and Midwest Steel Highway starting on or after Monday, July 22.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), the Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) will perform the utility work. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes during this period. The official detour will guide drivers to follow State Road 249 and U.S. 20.

The closure is necessary for utility upgrades to ensure better service and infrastructure reliability. This may cause delays and inconveniences, but it is a crucial step for maintaining essential services. INDOT recommends that drivers plan their routes ahead of time and allow extra travel time to accommodate the detour.
