Indianapolis, IN – A CSX train derailed Sunday evening at Southeastern Avenue and Earhart Street in Indianapolis, leaving six rail cars scattered across the roadway. According to the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD), two of the cars were empty, while four contained cornstarch, which spilled onto the ground following the derailment. The initial response was triggered by a report of a possible train fire, which was later confirmed to be a chemical spill. However, authorities clarified that no fire or hazardous materials were involved.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation, and no injuries have been reported. Emergency teams have since closed Southeastern Avenue at Sherman and Earhart as they await the arrival of heavy equipment to move the rail cars. The area will remain closed until the cleanup and recovery efforts are complete.
