West Lafayette, IN – A West Lafayette man was arrested late Wednesday night after state troopers said a traffic stop along Interstate 65 allegedly turned up narcotics, syringes and a firearm.
According to the Indiana State Police Lafayette District, Trooper Brandon Howell and Trooper Schroder pulled over a Chevrolet Malibu just after 11:30 p.m. on State Road 26 near I-65 for a traffic violation. The driver was identified as 33-year-old Mahlon Justice of West Lafayette.
Investigators said Trooper Howell noticed signs of possible criminal activity and requested a K-9 from the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department. The dog allegedly gave a positive indication for narcotics, prompting a search of the vehicle. Police reported discovering suspected methamphetamine, hypodermic syringes and a firearm.
Troopers also allege Justice was operating the vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance. He was taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail while the suspected methamphetamine was sent to the Indiana State Police Laboratory for testing.
Justice faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
