Portage, IN – Traffic on the north side of Portage is facing significant disruption as Willowcreek Road remains closed and is not expected to reopen until midnight at the earliest, authorities said.
According to the Portage Police Department, the closure has resulted in major traffic congestion in the surrounding area, with officers urging drivers to avoid the location if possible. The delays are being compounded by the ongoing need for utility crews to address fallen trees in multiple areas, which has made travel increasingly difficult Friday afternoon.
Police said they are still waiting for utility teams to arrive and begin removing the obstructions. The high volume of service calls — which officers attribute to the warm weather — has also placed additional strain on local emergency response efforts.
Officers are assisting with traffic management as resources allow, the department stated, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Drivers are strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes and allow extra time for travel through Portage on Friday evening.
