Lowell, IN – A semi-truck crash and fire shut down all northbound lanes of Interstate 65 near Lowell early today, creating significant delays and prompting an emergency response.

According to the Indiana State Police Lowell Post, the incident occurred at mile marker 239, approximately one mile south of the Lowell exit. Authorities reported that the semi-truck overturned and caught fire, forcing a full closure of northbound traffic. The driver was able to escape the vehicle and has been transported for medical treatment. His condition has not been released.

Emergency crews remain on the scene battling the blaze and assessing damage. There is currently no estimated time for reopening the interstate. All northbound traffic is being diverted at State Road 10 (Exit 230), and drivers are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

The cause of the crash has not yet been confirmed. Officials are asking motorists to exercise caution when traveling near the scene and to follow detour signs posted by road crews.

This section of I-65 serves as a critical corridor for both local and interstate travel, and the closure is expected to cause extended delays throughout the day. Authorities said updates will be posted as more information becomes available.
