BLOOMINGTON, IN – What began as a crisp, game-day Saturday morning in southern Indiana quickly turned chaotic for Hoosier fans heading to Memorial Stadium. Indiana State Police (ISP) are investigating a fatal crash on northbound I-69, just north of the Sample Road interchange, that’s now creating miles of backup and lengthy delays.

The wreck occurred along a busy stretch of I-69 north of Bloomington, where traffic for the Indiana vs. UCLA football game was already heavy. Police report full lane closures at times as emergency crews investigate and clear debris. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes into Bloomington to reach the game.

Fans traveling from Indianapolis or points north should consider exiting I-69 early — State Road 37, State Road 46, or Sample Road westbound offer possible detours toward campus. Traffic apps and INDOT’s 511 map can help drivers monitor closures in real time.

ISP troopers, Monroe County deputies, and local fire units remain on scene as of midmorning. Expect slowdowns along feeder routes and near Bloomington city limits as football traffic continues to build toward kickoff.
