Schererville, IN – A section of Burr Street in Schererville will be closed to through traffic starting today as crews begin a multi-month infrastructure project stretching into the fall.
According to Southcom 911, Burr Street will be closed from 73rd Avenue (Joliet Street) to 78th Avenue starting Monday, June 16, 2025, through October 6, 2025. The closure supports a major reconstruction project involving water main replacement, curb work, concrete installation, and improvements to a nearby multi-use trail.
The construction includes installing a new transmission water main and reconstructing the existing roadway. Work is weather-dependent and will continue throughout the summer and early fall months.
Local traffic will be permitted access within the closed section, but all other motorists are urged to use alternate routes and follow posted detour signage. Officials are asking the public to plan ahead to avoid delays.
This long-term closure is part of Schererville’s broader infrastructure improvement plan designed to enhance public utilities and roadway safety along the Burr Street corridor.
