Crown Point, IN – A stretch of 153rd Avenue in Lake County will be closed beginning today as crews begin a months-long bridge replacement project.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the road will be closed between Mississippi Street and Iowa Street/Grove Road from Monday, June 16 through mid-November. During this time, motorists are advised to use an official detour via Clay Street, State Road 2, and State Road 55.

In addition to the full road closure, INDOT officials said drivers should prepare for daytime lane shifts and intermittent overnight lane closures on Interstate 65 in the project area. The first of these overnight lane restrictions are expected between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. from Wednesday, June 18 through Friday, June 20.

Authorities urge drivers to plan alternate routes and remain alert to changing traffic patterns around the I-65 corridor, particularly during the nighttime closure windows.

The bridge work is part of INDOT’s ongoing infrastructure improvement program in Northwest Indiana, aimed at enhancing roadway safety and connectivity across the region.
