Indianapolis, Ind. – Eight counties across southeast Indiana remain under a Tornado Watch until 3 a.m. Saturday as a line of severe storms moves through the region, bringing the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Tornado Watch 269 includes Dearborn, Fayette, Franklin, Ohio, Ripley, Switzerland, Union, and Wayne counties. The watch was issued at 7:15 p.m. Friday and extends through the overnight hours when visibility is low and residents are likely asleep.
Communities from Brookville to Richmond should remain on alert for fast-developing storms capable of producing rotation. Emergency managers urge residents to ensure wireless alerts are enabled and to identify a safe shelter location in advance. Travel should be avoided after midnight, especially along U.S. 52, State Road 1, and Interstate 70 near the Ohio border.
This threat follows a week of volatile weather across the Ohio Valley. Tornado sirens may sound with little warning, and some areas could experience power outages if storms strengthen overnight. Outdoor activities should be canceled or moved indoors, and mobile home residents are strongly encouraged to relocate to sturdier shelter if possible.
Additional warnings may be issued as storms evolve. The Tornado Watch remains active until 3 a.m. EDT.
