Lebanon, IN – Boone County law enforcement agencies are stepping up patrols this holiday season as part of the statewide Safe Family Travel campaign, aimed at reducing impaired and unsafe driving from November 26 through the end of December.

According to a release from the Boone County Traffic Safety Partnership (BCTSP), officers will focus on violations involving impaired driving, aggressive behavior, and seat belt compliance. The effort is supported by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

“We see the consequences of unsafe driving every day,” said Douglas Huntsinger, executive director of ICJI. “By buckling up, slowing down, and never driving impaired, we can all help make Indiana’s roads safer this season.”

Boone County Sheriff Tony Harris reminded residents that “driving safely is a shared responsibility,” urging drivers to plan safe rides home and avoid getting behind the wheel after drinking.

The campaign also highlights the dangers of seat belt neglect, with NHTSA data showing alcohol-impaired driving and failure to buckle up remain top causes of fatal crashes, especially during the holiday season.

Motorists are encouraged to report unsafe or impaired driving by calling 911. For additional safety information, visit www.nhtsa.gov/risky-driving.
