Indiana SWAT-Involved Shooting Today Under Investigation in Gary After Suspect Killed

Gary, IN – A SWAT operation early Wednesday morning in Gary ended with a suspect allegedly shot and killed by police following a confrontation during the execution of a narcotics search warrant.

According to the Gary Police Department, the incident unfolded around 6:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Adams Street as the SWAT Team responded to community reports of suspected drug sales and distribution. Authorities allege the individual named in the search warrant attempted to flee out the rear of the building and allegedly engaged officers with a firearm. Officers then fired upon the individual, who was later pronounced dead from the injuries sustained during the incident.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department is now leading the ongoing investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Officials have not released the identity of the deceased pending notification of family members.

“The safety of our city relies on the partnership between our officers and the community,” Chief Cannon stated in a release. The chief encouraged residents to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activity, emphasizing that every community tip brings Gary closer to improved safety.
