Indianapolis, Indiana – Thunderstorms could interrupt Thursday afternoon plans across Central Indiana as high heat and unstable air build into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms will develop after 2 p.m. Thursday, with highs near 88°F and light winds. While morning and midday hours will stay mostly sunny, drivers on I-70, I-65, and I-465 should expect isolated downpours and reduced visibility later in the day.
Storm chances increase slightly into Friday, with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms by late afternoon. Daytime highs will push near 89°F, and nighttime lows will stay muggy in the low 70s. Friday night continues the trend with additional storm chances, especially after 2 a.m. Saturday.
Saturday brings the most active weather window, with a 70% chance of storms by mid-afternoon and highs nearing 90°F. Conditions will remain unstable through Saturday night, when showers and thunderstorms are likely before midnight.
By Sunday, another round of scattered afternoon storms is expected, though coverage may be less widespread. Highs dip slightly to 87°F under partly cloudy skies.
